Firebomb Suspect Arrested in Chase

A man suspected of throwing Molotov cocktails at two San Diego police stations, a school, a house and a truck has been arrested in Riverside County after a freeway chase.

San Diego Fire spokesman Maurice Luque says 26-year-old Edward Batties of San Diego was arrested Sunday on Interstate 15 in Temecula after his sport utility vehicle ran over spike strips.

The firebombs thrown late Saturday and early Sunday destroyed the truck and broke a window and burned the lawn of the house, but the others caused no significant damage and there were no injuries.

A police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the suspected arsonists' SUV in San Diego's Del Mar Heights neighborhood a few hours later, and Batties was arrested after he was chased into Riverside County.
