A brush fire in Bay Terraces burning toward homes in the area was quickly put out.
The fire started north of the 54 Freeway and east of Briarwood Road at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, fire officials said.
The fire burned half an acre. Heartland Fire Department, San Diego Fire Department and California High Patrol crews responded to the fire, which was burning relatively slowly.
