Fire Damages College Area Kosher Market

A strong smell of spices, not smoke, filled the air outside a College Area strip mall damaged by an overnight fire.

Fire affected three businesses Wednesday morning including the Kosher Place Market and Deli on El Cajon Boulevard.

The fire was believed to have started in the back area of the deli near the ice machine around 1:00 a.m.

A nearby clothing store and a cash advance store were briefly threatened by the fire but according to San Diego Fire and Rescue, they were not damaged.

Because of the timing, all three businesses were empty.

Arson investigators were on scene and told NBCSanDiego news crews that they were talking with the owner to determine the cause of the fire. A fire spokesperson said later that the fire was not considered suspicious.
