Fire Crews Battle Apartment Building Blaze

Fire crews quickly extinguished a fire at a Lakeside apartment Saturday

Fire crews quickly extinguished a large fire in a Lakeside apartment building that began shortly before 10:40 a.m. Saturday.

Explosions were heard coming from the two-alarm fire in the 12600 block of Julian Road near Los Coches Road, according to radio traffic.

So far, there have not been any reports of injuries, a Heartland Fire official said.

A nearby structure was checked and cleared for exposure around 11:20 a.m., after white smoke flooded the next door building, according to radio traffic.

Fire officials at the scene said no one was inside the building when the blaze began. The building was destroyed and five people were displaced.

No word yet on the cause of the fire. Check back for updates.
