Fire Knocked Down East of Chula Vista

A fire started spreading Wednesday afternoon in the east county just west of Jamul, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to reports of the fire near the 13000 block of Proctor Valley Rd.,  east of Chula Vista, just after 4 p.m., according to Cal Fire authorities.

As of 4:30 p.m., the fire had burned between 10 and 15 acres. About 30 minutes later, it had reached 20 acres, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Just after 5 p.m., the fire was stopped at 20 acres.

Officials say the flames were burning in a westward direction, but away from homes. The fire is not burning near Mt. Miguel.

No structures are threatened and no homes are being evacuated.
