Fire Burns Church Classrooms in Midway

Church offices, classrooms, a nursery and years of files were severely burned Tuesday afternoon in an office-building fire in Midway.

The blaze was reported after 1:30 p.m. at 3535 Enterprise St., and San Diego Fire and Rescue responded with two engines, four trucks and about 30 firefighters, said spokesman Maurice Luque, who called the blaze "stubborn."

Crews had to vacate the inside of the building because its floors were collapsing, and one personwas transported to a hospital, Luque said.

No civilizians were reported inside the building when the fire began, Luque said.

As of 3:15 p.m., firefighters were still working to fully knock down the fire. Its cause remains under investigation.
