Brush Fire Closes Interstate 15, I-805 Junction

The junction of Interstate 805 and the 15 Freeway was closed briefly on Monday afternoon, as crews were battling a brush fire burning along the interchange, officials said.

The fire started burning just after 3 p.m. on both sides of the junction of the 805 and 15 freeways in Fairmont Park.

As of 3:40 p.m., the fire was extinguished.

By 4:30 p.m., the 15 Freeway north at I-805 had reopened and traffic was flowing again.

NBC 7’s Meteorologist Dagmar said the Santa Ana conditions are in effect for the fire with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s.

Fire officials don't know exactly what caused the fire, though they believe someone might have tossed a cigarette or another lit object amid the brush next to the freeway.
