Teen Shot to Death in Mid-City Area

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday near El Cajon Blvd.

Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Mid-City area.

Authorities said they found four shell casings on the ground following a shooting at Chamoune Avenue and Orange Avenue, near El Cajon Boulevard, around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, one male victim was shot three to four times while riding his bicycle at the intersection. Police believe the victim tried to run away, but collapsed on the driveway of a nearby fire station.

Firefighters at the station were out on call at the time, police said.

No suspects were found at the scene but police describe at least one alleged shooting suspect as a short, muscular black male wearing a gray tank top, carrying something – possibly a red shirt – in his hand.

A few days later, the medical examiner identified the shooting victim as 19-year-old Joseph Hutchins. The ME report confirmed Hutchins died at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds.
