A 25-year-old Cal State San Marcos student died after crashing his motorcycle around 2:30 a.m. near the Interstate 15 to state Route 52 connector, according to CHP officers and the San Diego Medical Examiner's office.

Solomon Ahmad Atighi of San Diego was riding a late model Honda CBR 600 and wearing a helmet when he veered off the roadway on a transition ramp.

A CHP dispatcher confirmed the man died at the scene of the crash, after losing control of his motorcycle and failing to negotiate a curve. The bike went up an embankment and then landed near the connector ramp of a nearby freeway, according to CHP.

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident. A CHP dispatcher said a news release is forthcoming.

Several freeway connectors in the area were closed down for a few hours for an investigation, but they have since been reopened.
