A man was struck and killed while walking along westbound Interstate 8 at the Taylor Street on-ramp Wednesday morning in a case now being investigated as a hit-and-run.
A report from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the victim was 50 years old, but his name was not immediately released. CHP officers said the man, described as homeless, was hit around 6 a.m.
Three cars struck him: a driver in a Toyota Tacoma, a driver in an Acura RDX, and a driver in a Nissan Altima. The first two drivers stopped and gave their information to officers. The third driver fled the scene, CHP officers said, turning the case into a hit-and-run.
None of the motorists involved in the crash were hurt, according to the CHP report.
The investigation closed down at least one lane of westbound I-8 for several hours at the start of the busy morning commute. Traffic was flowing through the area again by 8 a.m.
No further details were released.
