Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run

The fatal collision happened at 1:30 a.m. on E. Lincoln Avenue in Escondido

A man has died after a fatal hit-and-run collision in Escondido, police confirmed.

Authorities said a 67-year-old man was crossing the street with a large group of family members near the 1000 block of East Lincoln Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a truck or SUV struck and seriously injured the man.

The vehicle fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center but later died at the hospital, police said. No other injuries among family members at the scene were reported.

On Wednesday, a medical examiner’s report identified the victim as Escondido resident Carlos Gomez.

The investigation is ongoing and police are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect.
