Train Strikes and Kills Pedestrian

Sheriffs said an Amtrak train struck a pedestrian in Leucadia

A fatal collision between an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train and a pedestrian left one man dead Friday night.

According to sheriffs, the collision happened around 10:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Coast Highway in Leucadia.

Encinitas resident Douglas Burns, 51, was walking near North Coast Highway after leaving a friend’s house when he was struck by the train.

Investigators said Burns sustained multiple blunt force injuries.

Medics attempted to administer CPR, but Burns died at the scene.

The train was stopped for hours along the tracks as authorities investigated the incident Friday night.
