Fairytale Castle Opens For Sick Youth

Environment benefits children, parents

It's a castle you might see in a fairytale, and its design may even lead to a "happily ever after."

A new Oceanside children's clinic resembling a castle had its grand opening this week, part of a joint effort between Sanford Health and Rady Childrens' Hospital.

Sanford Health Plan President Ruth Krystopolski said the environment in which children are treated greatly impacts their outcome.

"Receiving healthcare," Krystopolski said, "whether it is in an outpatient clinic or in a hospital, are some of the most stressful times for children and their parents. And the warm and inviting facility reduces the fear in kids. And happier kids mean happier parents."

The grand opening celebration had many kid-friendly activities like face painting, storytelling and crafts.

The clinic is the second Sanford Children's world clinic to open its doors. In 2009, the first clinic opened in Oklahoma and proved to be quite successful.
