TV Report Helps Nab Toothless Bandit

FBI agents credit an NBC 7 news report for helping track down and capture a serial bank robber in San Diego

A serial bank robbery suspect known as the "Toothless Bandit" is in custody and FBI officials in San Diego County say the arrest is thanks to a recent NBC 7 report.

FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth confirmed the arrest of one of three serial bank bandits who are believed to be responsible for 12 robberies this year.

The most recent robbery happened at a Wells Fargo branch in downtown San Diego.

Foxworth said the heist involved the Toothless Bandit – who’s described as having only one tooth in the upper part of his mouth.

On Tuesday, Foxworth confirmed agents had taken the suspect in custody.

The man is believed to have robbed at least five local banks since August.

The two other serial bank bandits profiled by NBC 7 - the Beer Gut Bandit and the Bomb Bandit - were still at large.
