SoCal Superfood Chain Everbowl Opens New Locations in Hillcrest, Little Italy

Established in San Diego in October 2016, Everbowl focuses on craft superfood bowls built on base ingredients like acai, pitaya, and graviola, customized with healthy toppings

A fast-growing San Diego-based chain is expanding again, this time opening locations in Hillcrest and Little Italy focused on the brand’s main dish: a build-your-own superfood bowl.

Everbowl, a quick-serve eatery founded locally in October 2016, is opening two new locations Thursday: one along University Avenue in Hillcrest and the other on India Street in Little Italy. Both locations will offer free bowls to patrons Thursday, valid from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Little Italy eatery, and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hillcrest spot.

Everbowl is known for its craft superfood bowls and smoothies build on base ingredients like acai, pitaya, acerola, and graviola. Patrons can customize those bowls to include liquid mix-ins like cashew milk and coconut water, add-ons like agave, flax, or hemp protein, and healthy toppings such as fresh fruit, almonds, and chia seeds. The build-your-own bowls start at around $9.

The freebies at the Hillcrest and Little Italy eateries include bowls built with acai or pitaya, a rep for the company said.

Jeff Fenster, CEO of Everbowl, at the company’s Scripps Ranch store. Fenster says he sells more than 55,000 bowls a month at his locations.

With these openings, Everbowl will now operate 19 eateries in Southern California. This includes more than a dozen locations spanning San Diego County from San Marcos and Oceanside, to Mission Valley, Bonita, San Diego State University, and Santee.

Earlier this year, Everbowl secured $3 million in funding from Toronto-based private equity firm, Serruya Private Equity. In the past, Serruya has worked with brands like Pinkberry, Jamba Juice and Cold Stone Creamery, among others.

At the time of that announcement, Everbowl said it planned to use the funding towards its 2019 expansion plans in California and to possibly expand to other states like Arizona and Nevada. That growth, the chain said, would also include opening as many as 45 Everbowl locations this year.
