Teens Injured in Fireworks Explosion

The teens were lightning fireworks in a canyon and were injured during an explosion

Three teenage boys were injured in Encinitas Wednesday while playing with fireworks in a canyon, officials from the sheriffโ€™s department said.

Deputies say three teenagers ages 15 to 17 were lightning fireworks around 2:45 p.m. in the 700 block fo Bonita Dr. when an explosion occurred.

The teens sustained injuries to the face, arms and legs during the explosion and had to be airlifted to local hospitals. Their current conditions are unknown.

Deputies, fire crews and medics all responded to the scene. Investigators later discovered and confirmed that fireworks had caused the explosion.

It is unclear where or how the teens obtained the fireworks. Detectives from the Encinitas Patrol Station are handling the ongoing investigation.
