A 16-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured in a car crash in Fairbanks Ranch.

Officers said Wardrip was seated in the back and was not wearing a seat belt when he was thrown from the car and died at the scene.  Wardrip lived with his parents in Encinitas. The junior played football and lacross for Santa Fe Christian.

Following an assembly Monday at 8 a.m., the football coach and Waldrip's teammates will have a prayer session.

Classes for the upper school, grades 9 through 12, were canceled Monday.

San Dieguito Road was closed for about four hours for an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. A 16-year-old boy was driving the 1999 Lexus GL 470.  Officers said alcohol or drugs were not factors.

The crash comes just three weeks after Alex Capozza, 17, died when a speeding car driven by a classmate at Torrey Pines High School crashed in nearby Rancho Santa Fe.
