An empty speedboat found in Mission Bay may have carried illegal immigrants.

Lifeguards spotted the vessel after 6 a.m. Saturday, abandoned in Ventura Cove.

They called Border Patrol, because it matched the profile of a suspected "Panga" boat.

“Anytime there's an abandoned vessel, one of the things lifeguards do is evaluate it for why it's there in the first place. So, it looked like it had been stripped and used for illegal activity of some type,” said Lt. Andy Lerum with San Diego Lifeguards.

Life jackets and gas cans were found aboard.

    No arrests were made.
