Elementary School Locked Down after Robbery

Golden Avenue Elementary School and day care was on high alert

An elementary school and day care center in Lemon Grove was placed on lockdown Monday morning after school officials reported a robbery near the campus.

Police said the robbery occurred on the 7900 block of Broadway at a cell phone store at about 10:30 a.m.

The robbery was near Golden Avenue Elementary School. Authorities put the school on lockdown as a precaution.

Witnesses inside the cell phone store said the suspects were two men with guns wearing dark colored hoodies, a mask and dark shorts. Witness Sam Fontanez said the suspects took cell phones and cash.

The suspects then got into a getaway vehicle with a female driver. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

By 11:20 a.m., the school was no longer in lockdown, and deputies determined that no shots were fired during the robbery.

Deputies are still searching the area in Lemon Grove for the suspects.
