Elderly Driver Puts in Jamba Juice Drive-Thru

It was tough to get a smoothie at the Jamba Juice in Clairemont on Monday.

A car accelerated across a parking lot into the storefront in the 4700 block of Clairemont Drive just before noon, according to firefighters. Amazingly, no one -- not the car's elderly driver, nor the people inside -- was hurt by the crash.

Still, customers said it was scary.

"I was going, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,' the whole time," customer Michelle Ring-Walters said. "I was shaking and breathing heavily -- like a lot of adrenaline, yeah -- but it was pretty crazy."

"I was actually ordering when the car came in, and I heard loud screeches, and then I turned around and the car had crashed into the window and, yeah, it was really scary."

There was no structural damage to the building, but the front door and door jamb had to be replaced.

There is no word on why the car plowed into the building.
