Elderly Bicyclist Dies After Accident

A man died in the hospital Tuesday night after crashing his bicycle on an Escondido street.

The 79-year-old man from Escondido was not wearing his helmet or lighting equipment when he crashed on Mission Ave. at about 7:30 p.m., said Officer Tyler Songer with the Escondido Police Department Traffic Bureau.

He was taken to the hospital and died later from his injuries, Songer said.

No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the accident and police have not yet determined whether the man was intoxicated.
