Driver Veers off Road, Crashes Into Canyon

    A driver was injured in Oceanside Wednesday night after veering off the roadway and crashing into a canyon, police said.

    The single-vehicle accident happened at around 7:40 p.m. in the 5400 block of Parrolette Court, close to Camp Pendleton.

    For unknown reasons, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle lost control of his car and landed about 20 feet off the roadway in a canyon, police said.

    The man became stuck inside the car and had to be extricated by firefighters. The rescue took about 15 minutes, officials said.

    The victim was airlifted to Scripps La Jolla by helicopter with unknown injuries. His current condition is unknown.

    Police are investigating and trying to determine whether alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.
