Child, 7, Dies After Being Hit by Car While Playing

A 7-year-old child has died after she was struck by a car while playing in the parking lot of an apartment complex, officials said. 

El Cajon police say a car struck the child in the 500 block of N. Johnson Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday. 

The girl, who lived with her family in a nearby apartment in the complex, was playing with another child in the parking lot when the incident occured, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office said.

She ran out from behind a dumpster and was struck by a Ford Ranger. The driver stayed at the scene, officers say.

The victim was taken to Rady Children's Hospital for unknown injuries. She was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived. 

Neighbors at the scene of a growing memorial near her home identified her as Riley Jackson. 

No further information was immediately available.
