Driver Hits Toddler in Parking Stall at City Heights Apartment Complex

The collision happened in an apartment complex parking lot in San Diego's City Heights community

A woman driving in the parking lot of a San Diego apartment complex accidentally struck and injured a 20-month-old boy as she backed into a parking stall Tuesday, police confirmed.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said the accident happened around 6:15 p.m. at a complex in the 4300 block of Home Ave. in City Heights.

According to investigators, a 36-year-old woman was trying to park her car. For unknown reasons, a toddler wandered into the parking lot and, as the woman backed her car into a stall, she hit the boy with her car.

Police said the toddler was driven to the hospital with his mother by the driver who hit him. The boy suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive, police said.

As of Wednesday morning, the child’s condition was unknown.
