Driver Extinguishes School Bus Fire

Children in wheel chairs evacuated from bus fire near City Heights

A school bus carrying several students in wheelchairs caught fire Monday morning on a freeway near City Heights.

The fire started in the rear wheel of the bus as it was driving near the northbound I-805 and I-15 freeways, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

The bus driver put out the fire, and all the children were safely evacuated with no injuries.

An alternate bus was arranged to pick the children up.

Traffic in the area slowed to about 10 miles per hour at about 7:15 a.m., according to Sigalert.
