Driver Freed from Crumpled Car

Firefighters spent more than an hour cutting through the roof and car frame

A man was trapped inside his vehicle after it crashed into a guardrail along a major highway interchange Monday.

The driver crashed near State Routes 15 and 94 just before Home Avenue.

Emergency crews spent more than an hour cutting through the roof and car frame to get the driver safely out of the vehicle.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital.

Witness Craig Aune described the incident as wild, nothing like he'd ever seen before.

β€œIt was just like a wave of glass shooting across four lanes of highway and I saw the guy's car stuffed in the guardrail,” said Aune. β€œI went around the corner to our yard to make sure everyone was alright, and I called my boss to get help on the way."

Aune, who also works on projects along highways for a living, had an important message for drivers.

He says if you see cones, move over a lane, or at a minimum, slow down.
