Driver Plows Into Bay Terraces Home

The driver slammed through a fence before crashing into a home in the 400 block of Arroyo Seco

A Bay Terraces resident woke up early Wednesday morning to the loud impact of a car slamming into her home – specifically the wall of her bedroom.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said a driver plowed through a fence in the 400 block of Arroyo Seco just before 1 a.m., hit exterior wall of the rear part of a home and then flipped his car, landing in that resident’s backyard.

When SDPD officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the wrecked vehicle upside down in the woman’s yard. The sliding glass door to the woman’s home was shattered and debris from the crash was strewn about her property. The wooden fence was in pieces.

The driver was gone.

Officers searched the neighborhood for the driver and found a disheveled man at a residence just a few homes away from the crash site. The man appeared to be injured, police said.

That man was detained for questioning and then taken to a local hospital. As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, the driver was still being treated for minor injuries and had not been arrested in connection with the crash. The investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

Police said the woman sleeping inside the home on Arroyo Seco was not harmed in the collision.

Cleaning up the mess in the woman’s yard proved challenging, and three tow trucks were used to remove the wreck from the backyard while avoiding damaging the home any further.
