DUI Suspect Flees, Plows Into Semi-Truck in La Mesa

The chase ended with the DUI suspect crashing into the back of a semi-truck on westbound Interstate 8, just east of State Route 125

A DUI suspect led police on a chase through the East County Wednesday that ended with him plowing into a semi-truck, getting pinned inside his car, and having to be rescued by authorities.

The driver crashed into the back of a semi-truck in La Mesa, after a high-speed chase.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver was traveling at speeds more than 90 miles an hour when he crashed into the semi-truck.
It happened in the westbound lanes of I-8, at the transition to SR-125.
The semi was just inches from the driver’s head. Firefighters had to cut open the pickup truck to get the driver out of the vehicle. Officers said he was taken to the hospital, and will placed into custody.
The chase started in the El Cajon area, and went on to local freeways.
Officers blocked some lanes on I-8, but all lanes have been reopened.

Just after 2 a.m., officers with the La Mesa Police Department (LMPD) tried to pull over the suspect on Amaya Drive because he was driving erratically in his pickup truck. The driver was identified by police as Jonathan Parr, 42.

Police said Parr refused to pull over. As he fled, he crashed into a parked car on Primrose Drive, then drove onto Interstate 8.

As he headed onto the freeway, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers took over the pursuit, which, per radio dispatchers, reached speeds of up to 97 mph.

Moments later, just east of State Route 125, Parr plowed into the back of a semi-truck. His vehicle became partially wedged under the trailer of the semi-truck; Parr was pinned inside the wreckage.

Firefighters had to cut open Parr's pickup truck to get him out. After the rescue, Parr was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony pursuit.

No one else was hurt in the chase or the crashes. No further details were immediately released.
