Driver Arrested After Leading Police on Pursuit

A driver was arrested Thursday on southbound State Route 163 after leading police on a pursuit, officials confirmed.

The San Diego Police Department says an officer first attempted to pull over a driver at Genesee Avenue on southbound SR-163 after the officer allegedly saw the driver dumping something from his vehicle into the road.

The driver failed to stop for the officer, and continued traveling on SR-163, reaching speeds of about 55 mph in moderate traffic, police said.

After a short pursuit, the driver yielded just north of Friars Road. The driver complied with police orders and was taken into custody without incident just after 3 p.m.

The SDPD says officers searched nearby lanes for traces of any materials the driver may have dumped, but couldn’t find anything.

The freeway was closed for about 10 minutes while officers searched the lanes, but reopened around 3:25 p.m.

It is unclear why the driver didn’t stop for police in the first place. The investigation is ongoing.
