Dog Stabbed 50 Times

Authorities are searching for the person who stabbed a 9-month old German shepherd more than 50 times.

The dog was stabbed between 4-5 a.m. Saturday morning in Point Loma, near the intersection of Rosecrans and Nimitz. The animal, which was stabbed in the throat, chest and abdomen, then staggered down Rosecrans leaving a trail of blood, before dying.

"Whoever is responsible for this despicable crime needs to be found and held accountable," said Dawn Danielson, the county's director of the department of animal services.

Authorities believe the person who killed the dog may have blood and dog hair on their clothes, and possibly may have been scratched and bitten by the dog bites.

A reward of $4,500 is being offered by the San Diego Animal Advocates and In Defense of Animals organizations for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed the canine.

Anybody who knows anything about the attack is being urged to contact the department of animal services at 619-823-4959. Callers may remain anonymous.

The dog's killer faces imprisonment or a fine of up to $20,000, or both.
