Local Golfer Makes PGA Debut

Daniel Miernicki golfs with fans in tow

Daniel Miernicki made his PGA debut at the Farmers Insurance Open Thursday.

The Santee resident and graduate of Cathedral Catholic High School received cheers of encouragement from his friends as he played through the Torrey Pines South Course.

"Go deep bro!" yelled Greg Kelly who said he played against Miernicki in high school. The 6-foot-4-inch 25-year-old smiled and said "Thanks."

Greg was one of 15 to 20 people at the Farmers Insurance Open cheering him on. "This couldn't have happened to a nicer guy," he said. "It's so awesome that he's here playing in the PGA."

Miernicki was one of four golfers to qualify for the tournament, shooting a 7-under 65 at the El Camino Country Club on Monday.
