Da Vinci Flies into the Air &Space Museum

Lovers of the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper can now get a closer look closer to home.

Reproductions of more than 90 of Leonardo da Vinci’s works are on display for a new exhibition at the Air &Space Museum in Balboa Park.

Da Vinci: The Ultimate Innovator offers a close-up view of reproductions of the artist’s most famous paintings and drawings as well as many of his inventions, machines and robotics.

Designs on display include the bicycle, spring-powered car, hang glider, helicopter and a robotic drummer on view for the first time. Each interactive model is presented with a replica of the drawing used to make the invention.

The exhibit is the result of 50 years of research by a group of Florentine artists pouring over da Vinci’s notes to bring to life his work using materials only available in 15th-century Italy.

The exhibition also includes children’s activities, videos and computer animations. It costs $5 with museum admission and will be on view until January 3, 2016.
