Suspect in Craigslist Robberies Arrested

Suspect pointed gun at victims instead of paying for iPad

Detectives arrested a suspect linked to a series of recent robberies involving Craigslist. Keith Smith was apprehended in his Mission Valley residence, but his female accomplice is still at large.

The 32-year-old suspect contacted the victims at their residences to buy iPads that had been advertised on Craigslist. Rather than pay for the iPads, the suspect stole them at gunpoint.

The postings for the iPads were in the Talmadge, Mt. Hope and Corridor neighborhoods.

During the course of two days, the suspect robbed three people at gunpoint after contacting them about an iPad on Craigslist. In one instance, a victim was demonstrating the iPad when the suspect pulled out a gun and threatened the victim.

Two of the stolen iPads and the handgun used in the robberies were recovered when Smith was apprehended.

Smith’s female companion remains at large. She is described as a white female, 20 to 25 years old, 5’4” with a thin build and blond hair. At the time of the robberies, she was wearing a dark sweatshirt and dark pants.

Anyone with information about these crimes, including the identity or whereabouts of the female is asked to call the San Diego Police Department at 619-531-2000 or the Mid City Division at 619-516-3000.
