Coronado City Council Mulls Speed Camera

Coronado city leaders may install a speed camera where residents say it's growing increasingly dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.

Coronado residents have been increasingly concerned about speeding and pedestrian accidents and now city councilmembers will consider installing a speed camera in one of the trouble spots.

The camera would be installed between Third and Fourth streets, between Orange Avenue and the San Diego Bay Bridge, according to Councilmember Bill Sandke.

Sandke said a number of residents have written in, supporting the idea of installing a speed camera.

However, legislation would have to be drawn up and passed in order to move forward with it. If approved at Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the item will be slated for public discussion in the coming months.

If the city decides to move forward with the idea, city staff will nail down all of the specifics required in order to install the camera, as well as the citation process for motorists caught speeding in these areas, Sandke added.

Residents can attend the meeting Tuesday, November 17 at 4 p.m.
