The impact of the crash shattered the windshield

An unlicensed driver ran a red light Saturday and hit an off-duty fire captain who was riding his bicycle in Pacific Beach, firefighters said.

It happened on Grand Ave and Mission Boulevard at about 8:45 a.m.

Initially it was thought the victim had a broken hip, but police later said his injuries were not thought to be that serious.

The driver was cited and let go.

  • Jaydee Sunday, Jan 11 at 8:14 PM FLAG COMMENT Have you noticed the lack of stating whether it was a man or woman that caused the accident???
  • dude Sunday, Jan 11 at 7:43 PM FLAG COMMENT You know the cops were happy about it. Cops and Firefighters have one thing in common. They all want to be Firefighters. They probably thought the Captain deserved it cause they didn't get hired. But seriously, why should I have to have uninsured motorists insurance if there is zero accountability for their actions? YAY affirmative action! Let's at least give them community service.
  • humor spin Sunday, Jan 11 at 7:08 AM FLAG COMMENT It doesn't tell you that the "fire Captain" was drunk and wiggling his "hose" at the motorist, the motorist screamed, pointed and luaghed and accidentally knocked the gear shift into D. The ticket was written for not having a seatbelt on.
  • campyderalleur Saturday, Jan 10 at 10:56 PM FLAG COMMENT I've almost been "hit" be those with an occupational title of "Fire" --- such as the "Captain" mentioned in the report. So why shall I have any sympathy. I must ALWAYS be on the lookout for MYSELF.
