Cop Car Hits North County Home

An Escondido police officer lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a house overnight.

The car hit a house at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Gamble Street at about 8 p.m. The officer was heading west on Lincoln Avenue at an unknown speed with his lights and sirens on.

Officials said the officer may have been going too fast to make the turn onto the narrow road. The patrol car knocked down a street sign, toppled a stretch of picket fence and did minor damage to a corner of the house.

The residents inside were not hurt. A woman on a ride-along was also in the vehicle. She and the officer suffered minor injuries.
