Convicted Sex Offender Arrested After Entering U.S.

Border Patrol agents stopped a convicted sex offender trying to enter the U.S. Monday.

41-year-old Mexican citizen Eloy Chavez-Loviano was apprehended while trying to enter the U.S. He was later arrested near the downtown area of Calexico, approximately one mile west of the port of entry.

U.S. Border Patrol agents said a criminal records check they performed show that he had been previously convicted for sex with a minor three years old or younger and was sentenced to one year in prison in Fresno.

He had also been previously convicted for the sale of narcotics while in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Border patrol officials said Chavez-Loviano was removed from the U.S. in July 2014 and had previous immigration convictions.

Chavez-Loviano is in the custody of Border Patrol and will be processed and prosecuted for re-entry.
