Contest Offers Chance to Win $2/Gallon Gas

Carpooling encouraged in radio station contest

San Diego drivers who commit to carpooling may see their bill at the pump cut in half -- and not just because they make their companions chip in for gas.

San Diego's Association of Governments (SANDAG) is teaming up with radio station KyXy to award 100 drivers with discounted gas on July 3.

Participants must register through the radio station's website and take the "carpool pledge" before midnight Thursday.

Winners of the $2 per gallon gas discount will be announced Friday.

The contest is a way to promote carpooling in San Diego, which SANDAG said will save commuters thousands of dollars a year on gas, car maintenance and repairs, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases.

For other carpooling bonuses, visit SANDAG's website.
