Coast Guard Medevacs Man 220 Miles Off Point Loma

The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 85-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately 220 miles south of Point Loma Friday officials said.

The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended the man, who was experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding, be helicoptered to a hospital for emergency care after watchstanders in Alameda received the report of the man’s illness from the cruise ship crew.

The man was safely hoisted into the helicopter at approximately 8:50 p.m.

He was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center. There is no word on his condition.
