Coast Guard Ends Search for Missing Swimmer

He went missing in the surf near Imperial Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard has ended the search for a missing teenager off the coast of Imperial Beach.

Imperial Beach lifeguards reported the boy, estimated to be age 16, missing to the Joint Harbor Operations Center about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He was last seen in the surf wearing a red shirt and black jeans.

Coast Guard Section initially launched a 33-foot rescue boat, a 41-foot rescue boat from Station San Diego, and a MH-60 helicopter to help anchor the search.

As of 6:20 p.m., the Mexican Navy took over the search and rescue mission, according to a USCG news release.
