Coast Guard Cutter Moving From San Diego to Honolulu

The Coast Guard cutter Sherman is heading from San Diego to its new homeport at Honolulu.

The Sherman, which departed Friday, will take over duties of the cutter Rush, which is scheduled to be decommissioned next month after 46 years in service.

The Coast Guard says the Rush and other Hamilton-class cutters are being replaced by Legend-class cutters that are better equipped, more durable and efficient.

The Sherman had moved from Alameda, California, to San Diego in May 2011 when the cutters Chase and Hamilton were retired.
