City Sells Ad Space on Doggie Bag Posts

The cash-strapped city of Encinitas has agreed to allow ads in its parks in exchange for a year’s free supply of doggie waste disposal bags.

The city council endorsed the bags-for-ads plan at Wednesday night's meeting.

CA advertising will provide the city with all the doggie waste disposal bags it can use each year.

In exchange, the company can post a sign on each of the city's bag dispenser posts.

Each sign will contain up to 10 small ads for local businesses.

City staff will now work with the agency on a contract, which will need approval later this year.

The city currently spends about $16,000 a year for disposal bags.
