City Fee Hikes on the Way for Carlsbad

Carlsbad residents will soon have to shell out more cash.

Carlsbad library patrons checking out a DVD, video or computer game will soon have to pay an extra 25 cents starting August 1, the North County Times is reporting.

This will be the first time the fee to rent a movie from the Carlsbad city library has increased in nearly 20 years, wrote Staff Writer Barbara Henry

The paper is reporting this is just the first fee hike of many,  for residents living in the city of Carlsbad. The city is planning to hike the fees for several of the services it provides to its residents.

Some of the proposed fee changes include raising the price of checking out a book from the inter-library loan program from $2 to $5. At Carlsbad's city recreation centers, the fee to play basketball will rise by a dollar.

Some of the other city fees that are expected to rise include water, sewer and trash rates.
