A Mitsubishi crossed University Avenue near 37th Street and collided with an MTS bus. The driver took off on foot. Nine passengers had to be taken to the hospital with injuries. Two were in serious condition but expected to survive.
A suspected drunk driver slammed into an MTS bus Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of University Avenue and 37th Street.
The crash was caught on video by a surveillance camera at a nearby tire shop.
In the video, you can see a maroon car crossing University Avenue and crashing into the side of the MTS bus which was heading east on University.
Police said the driver of the maroon Mitsubishi tried to drive off but the car stalled. In the video, you can see him running from the crash scene southbound on 37th street.
Officers found an open can of "Four Loko" inside the cup holder of the maroon car. It's an alcoholic beverage and officers believe the driver was under the influence.
About 40 people were on the bus, nine of them were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
"They were complaining about neck and back pain,"said Officer Ron Bailiff. "It appears no one was too seriously hurt."
The driver of the Mitsubishi is described as a light skinned male about 18-25 years old. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue and white checked shorts.
