Local Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

A Chula Vista man was one of four U.S. soldiers killed Monday in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Kristofferson Lorenzo, 33, of Chula Vista was on his third deployment, his second in Afghanistan.

Lorenzo was killed by an IED May 23 alongside Pfc. William S. Blevins, 21, of Sardinia, Ohio, Pvt. Andrew M. Krippner, 20, Garland, Texas. and Pfc. Thomas C. Allers, 23, of Plainwell, Mich.

The unit was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Lorenzo’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (5 oak leaf clusters), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Airborne Badge, Driver's Badge and the Purple Heart.
