Woman Killed in Chula Vista Street ID'd

A woman was shot several times and killed while walking to a friend's home in Chula Vista overnight.

The 24-year-old woman was walking with her boyfriend on Quintard Street between 3rd Avenue and Palomar Street, returning to a friend's house after going to the store.

As they walked along the street, an unknown man shot the woman three times.

The first 911 calls were received at 12:01 a.m. from witnesses who reported hearing three to four gunshots. When emergency crews arrived, they found the woman dead in the middle of the street.

Family identifies the victim as Pamela Burgos.

"Pam will be most remembered for her love of her family, her incredibly strong spirit, her outgoing and fierce personality and her determination to make everyone around her happy," a family member wrote on a GoFundMe page.

The boyfriend, who was not hurt, was questioned by homicide investigators but was not considered a suspect, officials said.

Investigators closed off a block of Quintard between 3rd Avenue and Palomar Street while they searched for evidence, and detectives went door to door to question neighbors who were awakened by it all.

"I heard three shots. That's what I heard. I didn't hear more than three," said a neighbor.

Most people who talked with NBC 7 were shocked that the victim was so young.

"That's pretty sad," said Margarita Velasco. "A whole life ahead of you and it's gone in seconds. It's pretty bad."

A fatal shooting was reported an hour earlier near Otay Mesa at Palm Avenue and Desty Street.

San Diego Police investigators at that shooting say they have been and will be in contact with Chula Vista police throughout the day to see if there is any connection between the two incidents.
