Chula Vista FC Bows Out of U.S. Open Cup Early After Disappointing Loss

The stage was set at Eastlake High School for Chula Vista FC to make another deep run in the U.S. Open Cup in their first ever home game of the tournament, but a 4-0 loss to tournament newcomers, La Manquina, in the second round of the qualifiers sent them out of the running early.

Chula Vista headed to the locker room down 1-0, but after a huge comeback win in the last qualifier, the team came out fighting. Head Coach Hector Diaz was impressed with his team’s effort in the second half and said his team played better and had better possession.

Without captain defender Luis Alvarado, due to an injury, La Manquina found the holes in the backfield and slipped three more goals into the net in the second half.

Chula Vista FC was eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup, but continues its season in the SoCal League.

They look to improve on their eight place position in the premier division against Artesia FC on Sunday December 6.
