A fire broke out at a Chula Vista apartment complex Tuesday morning, leading residents to evacuate the building, officials said.
The blaze began around 8:45 a.m. in the third floor of a complex located at 364 5th Avenue.
Officials say evacuations were ordered for the entire complex. The building houses senior citizens and evacuations proved challenging because many of the residents were elderly and use wheelchairs and walkers, officials said.
Dozens of fire engines and emergency vehicles responded to the scene and firefighters rushed into the building to battle the blaze. They were able to quickly knock down the fire.
A large group of residents could be seen outside the building as crews worked.
On person suffered a minor injury, but additional injuries were not reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
