Hazmat crews responded to a chemical spill in Carlsbad on Tuesday.
The spill was reported just after 4 p.m. at a building in the 2200-block of Rutherford Road, just north of Palomar Airport Road. The spill happened in a storage area, according to officials.
The Carlsbad Fire Department and the Hazardous Incident Response Team responded. Aerial pictures showed multiple fire trucks and fire-rescue vehicles lining the parking lot.
Officials told NBC 7 the building was evacuated, but employees were allowed into the parking lot to get their cars.
Carlsbad Fire Division Chief Chris Heiser said neighboring buildings were also evacuated. No one was injured.
As of Tuesday night, crews were still working to identify the chemical.
“The vapor did appear to be an irritant," Heiser said. "So based on that, we’re treating this as a hazardous material release."
