Chargers To Add (Another) QB (Again)

Former Aztec O'Connell On The Way

The Chargers lost Charlie Whitehurst to a knee injury, then Kyle Boller to retirement. Hopefully Kevin O'Connell sticks around a little longer.

The former Aztec and La Costa Canyon High School star took a physical with the Bolts on Sunday and is expected to sign a 1-year deal with his home town team on Monday.

Whitehurst is expected to return to practice in a couple of weeks, but that doesn't mean O'Connell is just a placeholder. As Norv Turner said Friday, any veteran who comes in to camp has a chance to win a roster spot.

After a solid career at San Diego State, O'Connell was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Patriots. Kevin has also spent time with the Jets, Dolphins and Lions.

In his final season on Montezuma Mesa, O'Connell threw a pair of touchdown passes to Vincent Brown, who was then a freshman wide receiver. Those two get to team up again in San Diego, this time as professionals.
